A homeless woman says living in a bus shelter with her boyfriend and mum is safer than being put in temporary housing with drug addicts.<br/><br/>Destiny Mitchell moved into the 3m (9.8ft) by 1m (3.2ft) glass and metal shelter in Selly Oak, Birmingham, seven months ago.<br/><br/>The 26-year-old, who has autism, lives in the disused bus stop on Bristol Road with boyfriend Ryan, 31, and her 44-year-old mum.<br/><br/>Destiny says the council offered them temporary accommodation but she does not want to be separated from her mum who also has autism.<br/><br/>The trio have tried to give the graffiti-covered shelter home comforts with a carpet, drawers and even an old pair of Super Mario curtains where the timetables were once displayed.<br/><br/>They have also been given garden chairs, a bin and sleeping bags from wellwishers.<br/><br/>She says the three of them use sellotape and cardboard given to them by students to patch up leaks in the roof and walls of their shelter.<br/><br/>Destiny says they slept in a doorway of a Greggs but moved into the bus stop after being moved on by the police. <br/><br/>Speaking today, she said: “When we found this place it was my idea to create this living space. <br/><br/>“Before I lived in a bus stop, I was sleeping in a blanket on the floor, but I didn't feel safe. <br/><br/>“I’ve been living here for seven months. Before that we lived near Greggs before the police moved us on. <br/><br/>“Because we’re not students they don't have housing for us. <br/><br/>“There’s three of us in here, me, my partner and my mum. This is all new to me, I used to live in a tent. <br/><br/>“I’ve been homeless for two years off and on. At one point our tent got burnt down.<br/><br/>“I’m from Wolverhampton and I had a flat but bad things happened and I had to leave it and was made homeless. That’s when we came to Selly Oak. <br/><br/>“I saw this bus stop out of use. It was cold and starting to rain. We’ve had to sellotape the roof to stop the rain getting in. <br/><br/>“The students help me sellotape the windows, I’ve got a chest of drawers, a carpet.”<br/><br/>The family will now have to move out after Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) announced it was demolishing the bus shelter within weeks.<br/><br/>Destiny added: “They’ve said we’ve got a month left and they’re going to destroy it. <br/><br/>“I’ve been in here a long time, I don’t want them to destroy my home, we haven't got anywhere else to live. <br/><br/>“If the council doesn’t help us we’re going to try and move into another bus stop. <br/><br/>“We wanted to get a caravan. We don’t want to go into a shared house because of drug users. We don’t want that, we don't use drugs. It's not safe for us.<br/><br/>“They are saying they won’t house my mum and us together. My mum’s disabled.<br/><br/>“I want them to house us before they take the bus shelter down.<br/> <br/>“I just want to make sure we all stay together as a family, that’s all I want.<br/><br/>“Nobody gives me any money. I haven’t got any clothes, I haven't got a bra on. <br/><br/>“No one gives me any money to buy what I need. They give me food but I need clothes too.

A slow start to Game 3 in the first round of the Western Conference playoff series turned into a chippy battle. The Dallas Mavericks came away with their second win of the series over the Los Angeles Clippers 101-85. <br/><br/>The Mavericks had five players finish the night in double figures with leading scorer Luka Dončić’ ending the night with 22 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. <br/><br/>Despite the Clippers holding a slim advantage in the second half, thanks to leading scorer James Harden, the Mavericks managed to overcome Los Angeles. Luka Dončić played a pivotal role, in the second quarter, where he found his rhythm from beyond the arc.<br/><br/>Dončić’s three-point shooting spree gave the Mavericks a slim two-point lead, 34-32, with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter. Dallas then extended their lead to 41-34 with over five minutes left in the quarter, with notable contributions from P.J. Washington and second-leading scorer Dereck Lively II.<br/><br/>The chemistry between Lively and Kyrie Irving was evident on the court, as Irving set up a lob for Lively, who completed the dunk.<br/><br/>Head coach Jason Kidd said the lob was huge for his team tonight, especially with their emphasis on getting in the paint. <br/><br/>“In the first half we had ten and in the first three games you would think that is the total we have,” said Kidd. “I told Ky [Kyrie Irving] he had a career-high of lobs and he was really in tune with D-Live [Dereck Lively II]. Just being able to get to the paint and the late pass, the lob was big for us.”<br/><br/>Not only did the Mavericks receive assistance on the offensive end, but their defense also shined, tallying seven blocks and eleven steals for the night. The Clippers attempted to alter their defensive strategies to challenge Dallas, but the Mavericks remained steadfast, heading into the locker room with a 54-41 lead.<br/><br/>The second half began with Kyrie Irving draining a deep three-pointer, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Irving played a crucial role during a two-minute scoring drought late in the third quarter, sinking a pivotal three-pointer that extended Dallas’s lead to 73-62 with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.<br/><br/>As the game reached its conclusion, tensions rose, resulting in a skirmish involving Washington, Terance Mann, and later Russell Westbrook. However, even this scuffle couldn’t disrupt Dallas’s offensive momentum. Washington was ejected from the game with six minutes remaining, with Dallas maintaining a comfortable 91-75 lead. Dallas added 10 more points to come away with the 16-point victory. <br/><br/>With a second series win under their belt, Kidd is hopeful that his team knows what they need to do to continue this momentum into Game 4. These two teams will face one another this Sunday in American Airlines Center. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.

The Dallas Cowboys had four picks on the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft:<br/><br/>Round 5 : No. 173 <br/><br/>Round 6 : No. 216<br/><br/>Round 7 : No. 233<br/><br/>Round 7 : No. 244 <br/><br/>Round five : Pick 173 – The Cowboys selected CB Caelen Carson out of Wake Forest. In 2023 Carson played in 11 games and finished with 42 tackles, 29 of them being solo tackles. He led the team with eight pass breakups. <br/><br/>We got to speak to Carson after the pick and he was asked what the Cowboys are getting, “Gritty player. Somebody that is gonna do whatever for the team, play special teams, play nickel, play outside, so you got versatility. And just a competitive dude. I’m competitive by nature. My personality might be quiet but on the field it’s a whole different personality.” Carson told the media.<br/><br/>When asked about playing alongside Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, Carson stated, “Definitely. I’m ready to learn from those guys. Trevon Diggs, another Maryland guy, I’m from Maryland too so we have that connection right there. I’m just excited to really learn. They’ve got a lot of interceptions together. I’m excited to see how they do that type of stuff, learn from their game and just compete with them.”<br/><br/>Round six : Pick 216 – The Dallas Cowboys selected former SE Missouri State WR Ryan Flournoy. Out ofall the wide receivers, Flournoy produced the fastest GPS time during position drills at the 2024 combine. The WR who did so in 2023? He started 11 games at wide receiver and led the team in receiving yards (984), receiving touchdowns (7) and receiving yards per game (89.5). <br/><br/>Round seven : Pick 233 – The Dallas Cowboys selected Nathan Thomas, OT, out of Louisiana. Thomas entered the draft as a redshirt junior, he anchored the left side of the line as a first-year starter at left tackle. Starting in all 13 games and finished with 25 knockdowns. He was also graded 80 percent or better in 11 of the 13 games. <br/><br/>Round seven : Pick 244 – The Dallas Cowboys selected Justin Rodgers the DT out of Auburn. Rogers is a big nose tackle prospect with the size and strength to occupy blockers and help clog up the middle. He has strong hands and can discard blocks quickly. He flashes the ability to push the pocket rushing the passer. He has 17 tackles and 1 sack in 2023, and made seven starts as a senior. <br/><br/>We spoke with GM and owner Jerry Jones after the draft along with head coach Mike McCarthy they told us that these were players that they needed and they are all great fits.
