The next chapter in the story of the venerable Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series is set to begin with the Australian arrival of the heavily upgraded 4x4 range, sporting new styling, upgraded technology, and a second powertrain option never before offered on the 70 Series.<br/><br/>Since its launch in 2007, the current-generation 70 Series range has been available exclusively with the 1VD-FTV 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 engine and five-speed manual transmission.<br/><br/>However the upgraded LandCruiser introduces the 1GD 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, for the first time in the 70 Series.<br/><br/>Priced from $75,600 plus on-road costs for the WorkMate 76 Series Wagon equipped with the new four-cylinder engine, the versatile 70 Series range is offered in five-door Wagon, three-door Troop Carrier, and Single and Double-Cab Chassis configurations.<br/><br/>All models are available with both powertrain options except the Workmate 76 Series Wagon, which is only available with the 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine.<br/><br/>Multiple mechanical changes have been made to the engine specifically for the 70 Series to ensure optimal cooling and performance in tough conditions and under heavy towing loads, with all models of the 70 Series’ maintaining a strong 3500kg braked towing capacity.<br/><br/>The 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 produces 151kW at 3400rpm and 430Nm from 1200-3200rpm and, paired with a five-speed manual, will continue to be offered on all 70 Series variants with the exception of the 76 Series WorkMate.<br/><br/>As before, the LandCruiser 70 Series range is equipped with a part-time 4x4 system with low-range gearing, durable live axles and front coil suspension.

It is the sixth product under the Toyota-Maruti Suzuki collaboration in India. Reservations for these have started and deliveries will start from May 2024.<br/><br/>The Urban Cruiser Taisor represents Toyota's fourth effort to rebrand its Maruti models, following the adaptation of the Baleno, Brezza and Ertiga into the Glanza, Urban Cruiser and Rumion respectively. While previous rebranded models have undergone subtle changes, the Taisor SUV is expected to undergo more significant changes.<br/><br/>In terms of design, the Taisor is based on the Fronx, so it bears similar dimensions and silhouette with an updated front and rear profile. Visual elements that make it different include a revised front grille, tweaked bumpers, new-style LED daytime running lights and redesigned alloy wheels.<br/><br/>The cabin of Toyota Taisor sports a new theme inside with new seat upholstery. As for features, the crossover has a large infotainment screen with wireless smartphone connectivity, semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charger, ambient lighting, steering wheel-mounted controls, 360-degree surround camera, and a head-up display.<br/><br/>Mechanically, the Toyota Taisor continues to use the same powertrain as the Maruti Fronx. It is equipped with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine producing 88bhp/113Nm and a 1.0 turbo petrol engine producing 99bhp/148Nm. The 1.2 can be combined with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT; The turbo gasoline engine can be equipped with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic torque converter unit. Select models also offer the option of a company-installed CNG kit.<br/><br/>Toyota Motor is all set to launch its first car in the Indian market this year with the introduction of the Urban Cruiser Taisor. The newest product of the Japanese automaker, which has stepped into the compact SUV segment, is derived from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx platform. However, it’ll be significantly more expensive that the model it replaces, with pricing now starting at $29,695, excluding a $1,395 delivery and destination fee. This translates to a $2,600 increase, or nearly 10% more for the base version compared to the outgoing 2024 model year. Meanwhile, the rest of the lineup sees price hikes ranging from $1,700 to $2,630, equating to a 5.6% to 8.3% increase.<br/><br/>At the base of the range you’ll find LED headlights, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there are analog gauges and a compact 4.2-inch multi-information display. Additionally, the Forester gets dual 7-inch displays and a four-speaker audio system.<br/><br/>Highlights are few and far between, but the base model has power windows and locks as well as a dual-zone automatic climate control system. Buyers will also find cloth seats with blue contrast stitching as well as a hexagonal pattern. The latter is echoed on the simulated leather dash.<br/><br/><br/>Despite being relatively basic on comfort features, the entry-level Forester comes with adaptive cruise control, a lane centering system, and pre-collision braking. They’re joined by an 11.6-inch infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, a fancier instrument cluster, upgraded upholstery, and a keyless access system with a push-button ignition.<br/><br/>The optimistically named Forester Sport begins at $34,495 and feels like it’s from the Bronze Age in more ways than one. Jokes aside, the model has bronze exterior accents as well as 19-inch alloy wheels with a bronze finish.
