Tim Sherwood conducted an awkward interview with Cole Palmer that left the Chelsea star looking stunned after comments about his team-mates following their 3-2 win over Newcastle.

The Blues secured their first league win since the middle of February with a narrow victory over the Magpies thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson, Palmer himself, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Newcastle's Alexander Isak had canceled out Jackson's opener before Jacob Murphy pulled one back later on - but Mauricio Pochettino's side held out.

Goalscorer Palmer was interviewed pitchside after the game by former Tottenham boss Sherwood, but the line of questioning he went for baffled fans and appeared to leave Palmer squirming.

After continuing his superb form this season with a goal and assist against Eddie Howe's men, Sherwood raised eyebrows with comments about Palmer's team-mates.

'All you need are some players to play with,' Sherwood said, followed by an awkward silence as Palmer looked back at him with a blank expression.

Sherwood, who has become a regular face on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday after coaching spells with Spurs and Aston Villa, then chimed in: 'I know you can't say that, but I'm saying it. I just think you need more quality around you.

'For me, [Pochettino] needs to build the team around you - with the quality you have, but that will come with a few transfer windows hopefully once he gets the right players in.'

Palmer eventually replied to Sherwood to insist 'there is a lot of quality there' despite his comments, adding: 'Not just me, we've got lots of other players. Hopefully, the team can gel a bit more than everyone has seen.'

Fans were far from pleased with Sherwood's comments, with one saying it was a 'disgusting thing to say'.

'That's a disgusting thing to say live on TV to a young player and after a win, I think Palmer handled that very well,' the user said.

'Put the poor boy on the spot. He handled it so well. Weldone Palmer,' read another tweet.

One read: 'This is ridiculous from Sherwood.

Another added to the chorus of those praising the player for his reaction, writing: 'Really well handled by Palmer.'

Palmer now has 13 goals and 10 assists for Chelsea this season to give himself a huge chance of making Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

Speaking further after the game, Palmer - who dazzled in front of the Three Lions boss at Stamford Bridge - said he wouldn't have believed he had a shot of making the squad last summer before joining from Man City for £42.5million.

‘If you had told me at the start of the season I had a chance to go to the Euros I wouldn't have believed it,’ Palmer said. ‘I will take each game as it comes and see what happens in the summer.

‘We showed passion, and courage winning the second ball and not getting bullied. As a young team, we're going to make mistakes.’

Pochettino added of Palmer: ‘He arrived the last day of the transfer window and it was so easy for him to adapt to the team

Basketball fanatics will spend more than a full day — 36 hours — completely consumed by the sport during March Madness in 2024.

Between watching games (13 hours), creating brackets (three hours) and discussing it with family and friends (five hours), a survey of 2,000 basketball fanatics ages 21+ revealed that during the three weeks of March Madness, nothing else matters.

And that’s not even counting the time they’ll spend engaging with online content (five hours), watching highlights (five hours) and placing bets (three hours).

Data also shows that March Madness can take precedent over their daily routines and social events. In fact, more than one-quarter (26%) admit they’ve skipped work, while one in five have canceled dates (17%) and even birthday parties (17%) just to ensure they don’t miss the action on the court.

Lifelong or bandwagon, more than three-quarters (76%) of respondents have a favorite team they're rooting for this March and 59% of those fans believe their team has what it takes to make it to the Final Four.

Furthermore, 57% are confident that their team can go all the way and will win it all this year, yet only 30% will pick them as their bracket champ no matter what.

According to respondents, the top three most likely conferences to come out on top this year include the Big Ten (21%), SEC (14%) and Big East (12%).

Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Tipico Sportsbook, results also revealed that an astounding 88% of fans are likely to stay loyal to their team and will watch every second of their games, even if they’re losing big.

Taking that a step further, die-hard fans will also sport their team’s apparel while watching other games (47%) and passionately always root against their rival (41%).

In fact, respondents are more likely to hope for a miracle (46%) or stay confident until there are no other options (45%) when their team is losing, compared to leaving the room (10%) or putting on a different game (9%).

But everyone has their limits — if their team is down by 19 points in the second half, the average fan starts to give up hope that they can win.

“March Madness is a cultural phenomenon unlike any other because anyone can be a hero; every year, new storylines captivate a diverse audience and define the fabric of the college basketball world,” said Brian Becker, Tipico Sportsbook SVP of Marketing. “For fans nationwide, it is a battle between knowledge and pure luck, but this survey data highlights that basketball fans are overwhelmingly loyal and trust that the time they spend educating themselves will give them an edge.”

The survey also found basketball fanatics are willing to spend a whopping $570 on their overall March Madness experience this year.

This year, 39% of basketball fans plan to place bets on the tournament this year.

Not only that, but they’re also planning to win more than in previous years. The average bettor has won about 46% of the bets they’ve placed in the past, but this year, bettors plan to average winning 59% of their bets.

In total, bettors plan to claim an average total of $261 this year. This may be why 46% of basketball fans are more likely to place bets during March Madness than any other time of the year.

However, few fans are willing to throw loyalty out the window for a shot at a higher payout. Only 24% admit they have placed bets against their favorite team and that they would do so again. More than half (54%) say that their loyalty to their favorite team runs so deep that they have never placed bets against their favorite and never will.

“It’s encouraging to see that basketball fans are feeling optimistic about their betting prospects and are taking advantage of the chance to win big money during the March Madness tournament,” said Andre Zammit, VP of Sportsbook at Tipico. “Whether it’s your first time betting or a yearly tradition, we’re excited to see where the bets fall during the pinnacle sports saga of the year.”

Survey methodology:
This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 basketball fanatics, ages 21+ was commissioned by Tipico between February 8 and February 14, 2024. It was conducted by market research company OnePoll, whose team members are members of the Market Research Society and have corporate membership to the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).

A quarter of women experiencing menopause say the best thing about it is getting a ‘second wave of sisterhood’, according to research.

A study of 2,000 who are peri-menopausal, menopausal or who have had the menopause, found 14 per cent have made more friends by sharing their experiences of the life stage than they could ever have imagined.

While three in 10 admitted it felt like a new community of people formed around them – women who were experiencing the same things and who wanted to share their journey.

With 64 per cent feeling the recent rise of celebrities such as Linda Barker and Davina McCall talking openly about what has happened to them has had a positive impact.

And although menopause, with its 62 symptoms, brings with it a host of problems, 61 per cent admit they are more than willing to share what is happening to them with friends, family and work colleagues.

The research was carried out by hygiene and health company Essity, which continues its quest to keep the conversation about menopause open.

Spokeswoman Debbie Thomas said: “Menopause can clearly be a challenge for a lot of women and we certainly don’t want to suggest that it can be an easy time for those experiencing it.

“But as we can see from our research, there is comfort to be had from sharing stories with others in the same boat.

“And women are no longer as embarrassed to talk about what is happening to them as previous generations might have been – it feels like that mindset of hiding the truth is finally changing.”

The research found for those first experiencing menopause symptoms, feelings were overwhelmingly negative at first – with 36 per cent worried it made them old, 18 per cent upset and one in 10 in denial.

But 26 per cent of those polled, via OnePoll.com, were quickly surprised to discover how open some women are when discussing their experiences.

And it only took around three months before they became comfortable sharing their own stories.

By doing so, these women immediately felt supported by others (43 per cent), as well as a sense of solidarity (37 per cent).

Women are most likely to talk to their female friends about their experiences (71 per cent), but 40 per cent will chat to work colleagues, happily so in a workplace setting (38 per cent).

It emerged 41 per cent tended to stay on the sidelines of any conversation they were hearing about menopause soon after realising they also had symptoms – but 42 per cent are generally relieved when others open up as it makes them feel more normal.

As well as feeling reassured (29 per cent) and supported (27 per cent), 63 per cent admitted talking with like-minded people about what they are going through is as important to their mental health and well-being as any medication could be.

Sharon Clapp, 56, from Sidmouth, trained as a menopause practitioner after going through the menopause early due to a hysterectomy.

She said: “I trained as a menopause practitioner, I’m not a qualified GP - I don’t prescribe, or tell people that’s what they should be doing.

\

It has four-wheel drive consisting of two motors that provide a total of 335 horsepower.

The ID.7 GTX Tourer became Wolfsburg's most powerful production wagon, eclipsing the 315-horsepower Golf R Variant. Unfortunately, it's not coming to the US.

VW's first electric performance wagon delivers a total output of 335 hp from a pair of electric motors that enable all-wheel drive. Most of the heavy lifting is done by the rear engine, as it produces 282 hp, while the front engine produces another 107 hp. The German brand says the front e-motor only activates when necessary and comes to life in a fraction of a second. Power delivery is via electronic differential locks and a dedicated AWD controller.

The dual-motor setup helps the ID.7 GTX Tourer tow up to 3,086 lbs, while the rear-wheel-drive, single-motor model introduced last month can only tow 2,204 lbs. The smaller model comes with a 77.0-kilowatt-hour battery in its base form, while the GTX gets the upgraded 86.0-kilowatt-hour pack as standard. It can be charged up to 200 kilowatts using DC and a 10 to 80 percent charge can be achieved in less than half an hour. Maximum range isn't mentioned, but we think it's less efficient than the rear-wheel-drive model with the larger battery, which can cover 426 miles on the WLTP cycle.

VW doesn't offer any details about performance either. Considering the regular rear-wheel-drive ID.7 hatchback, we estimate 0-to-62 mph is achieved in the low six-second or high-five-second range, and just 282 hp takes six and a half seconds.

Like the ID.3 GTX introduced today, the ID.7 GTX Tourer adopts a slightly sportier look with redesigned bumpers, gloss black accents and special wheels. The electric sports wagon comes with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, but you can also opt for the larger 21-inch set. The interior is adorned with red accents as well as GTX logos on the seats and steering wheel.

You won't sacrifice any practicality by getting the GTX, as it has the same 21.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity as the standard ID.7 Tourer. The same goes for folding down the rear seats, increasing maximum trunk volume to 60.5 cubic feet. Similar to the regular electric wagon, the stylish panoramic sunroof, available for an additional fee, goes from opaque to transparent.

In Europe, the electric sports wagon goes on sale this spring.

Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/712205/volkswagen-id7-gtx-tourer-debut/
