STI Sport Black Interior Selection is now available for the Japanese-spec Subaru Forester.<br/><br/>The fifth-generation Subaru Forester continues to experience another model year in Japan with its carried over design and powertrains.<br/>Model year updates include the addition of the new STI Sport Black Interior Selection special edition.<br/>The US-spec Forester Wilderness' Geyser Blue is available only for Japan-spec X-Edition and XT-Edition models.<br/>Subaru may have introduced the new sixth generation of the Forester in North America, but Japanese buyers will have to make do with the current model, which has been on the market since 2018. The domestic version Forester will receive minor model year updates for 2024, including the new STI Sport. A Black Interior Select trim is available, adopting an all-black theme for the cabin.<br/><br/>The exterior of the SUV remains unchanged since its last facelift in 2021. However, Subaru aims to maintain buyer interest with new equipment and special versions. This is the same color used on the US-spec Subaru Forester Wilderness, first introduced in Japan in late 2022 with the XT-Edition.<br/><br/>Both the X-Edition and XT-Edition trims are equipped with waterproof upholstery, durable cargo floor lining and black interior accents. The main difference is that the Forester X-Edition gets the 2.0-litre e-Boxer hybrid powertrain, while the XT-Edition gets the more powerful 1.8-litre turbocharged engine. All trims of the Forester come standard with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.<br/><br/>Pricing for the 2024 Subaru Forester in Japan starts at ¥3,069,000 ($20,040). It ditches the curves, adopting the boxy design language already seen on the smaller C3 hatchback, which shares the updated 'Smart' CMP platform, and Citroen's controversial new corporate logo features proudly on the grille, whose mesh is patterned after the brand's double-striped grille.<br/><br/>And there are similarities with the South American market Aircross introduced 12 months ago, although that model features different door handles and a more traditional Citroen nose.<br/><br/>In terms of packaging, the Aircross closely mirrors the recently introduced Opel Frontera, which also uses the same architecture and will compete directly with Citroen for buyers across Europe. Neither company has revealed the wheelbase measurements for either car (they'll likely be the same), but Citroen says the Aircross is the largest in its class and that's why it can fit a third row of seats inside; This is something Opel hasn't done yet.<br/><br/>We know that overall length has increased by 240 mm (9.5 inches) over the old Aircross, with overall bumper-to-bumper length rising to 4,390 mm (172.8 inches), and Citroen says the more upright rear window means third-row passengers won't have to lower their heads .<br/><br/>Like all its small SUV rivals, the Aircross has zero real off-road purpose, despite what its ground clearance, roof bars and body cladding would have you believe. Citroen has not detailed the powertrain setups at this stage, but says combustion, hybrid and electric options will all be available.<br/><br/>This means we can expect to find the group's 1.2-liter turbo engine under the hood, both with and without 48-volt mild hybrid support. Toyota's venerable off-roader gets a new redesign, a new hybrid powertrain, and tougher Trailhunter trim.<br/><br/>The last time the Toyota 4Runner came out new, President Obama was new to the Oval Office and the Black Eyed Peas were at the top of the Billboard charts. This was 15 years ago. There's now a new 4Runner – finally – and even though Toyota has rebuilt its iconic off-roader from the ground up, it retains its rugged spirit.<br/><br/>Also based on the new Tacoma, the 2025 4Runner uses the same TNGA-F truck architecture. It ditches the old 4.0-liter V-6 and five-speed automatic in favor of a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 278 horsepower and 378 pound-feet of torque. That's 8 more hp than the current 4Runner and a whopping 100 additional pound-feet.<br/><br/>The optional I-Force Max hybrid version of the same engine produces 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Both of these powertrains ditch the old five-speed in favor of a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, there is no manual to be found.<br/><br/>The 4Runner will be offered with two-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive and full-time four-wheel drive, depending on how you specify it. All 2WD models will feature a limited-slip differential, while 4WD models will feature the same LSD and electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high- and low-range gearing, as well as Toyota's Active Traction Control (A-Trac).<br/><br/>There's also what Toyota calls the new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism for better articulation. This one-button access system allows the 4Runner to flex while keeping its tires on the ground. The 4Runner has a 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angle.<br/><br/>And the new 4Runner promises to be even more capable. Mud, Dirt and Sand modes and a quieter Crawl Control function join the party in 2025, while new Trailhunter hardware (borrowed from the Tacoma) joins the rest of the lineup. Buyers will be able to choose from nine 4Runner trims: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and the aforementioned Trailhunter, the toughest of the bunch.<br/><br/>The 4Runner Trailhunter has 33-inch all-terrain tires that raise the ride height by 2.0 inches in the front and 1.5 inches in the rear. Two-and-a-half-inch Old Man Emu forged shocks with ARB-free reservoirs dot the corners of the suspension. There's also an ARB-designed roof rack, a high-mounted air intake for the I-Force Max powertrain (standard on the Trailhunter), a 20-inch light bar, and steel skid plates.
