But they differed, and some of them believed and some of them disbelieved. This ancient civilization operated without a written legal code, relying instead on the authority of tribal leaders to govern. <br/><br/>Thamud (ثمود) finds mention in the Quran as a people renowned for their skill in carving stone houses from mountain rock in ancient Arabia. They were recipients of divine messages through the prophet Salih. Legend has it that the remarkable stone dwellings at Medain Salih bear testament to the architectural prowess of the ancient Thamudic people.<br/><br/>Both the Aad and Thamud civilizations were situated in the northwestern region of modern-day Saudi Arabia, near the border of Jordan. Preceding their downfall, Allah dispatched two prophets to these nations: Prophet Hud (AS) to the Aad, and Prophet Salih (AS) to the Thamud, in efforts to guide them toward righteousness.")

They were loathe to this proposal when they found out that it was on the latter’s behalf for they had thought that the Prophet s wanted to marry her himself. But afterwards they consented because of the following part of the verse And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger has certainly strayed into manifest error. Thus the Prophet s gave her in marriage to Zayd. Then on one occasion whereafter when he realized that Zayd lost his affection for her and so said to the Prophet s ‘I want to part with her’. But the Prophet said to him ‘Retain your wife for yourself’ as God exalted be He says.")

But afterwards they consented because of the following part of the verse And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger has certainly strayed into manifest error. Thus the Prophet s gave her in marriage to Zayd. Then on one occasion whereafter when he realized that Zayd lost his affection for her and so said to the Prophet s ‘I want to part with her’. But the Prophet said to him ‘Retain your wife for yourself’ as God exalted be He says.")
