A former MMA fighter who became an amputee after a cough led to septic shock is determined to walk again.<br/><br/>James Mackay, 52, developed a persistent cough and was admitted to Milton Keynes University Hospital, Buckinghamshire when it continued to get worse.<br/><br/>He was diagnosed with Strep A and went into septic shock - where blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection - a few days after being admitted. <br/><br/>The dad-of-two spent six weeks in a coma and three months in intensive care.<br/><br/>James had his fingers, thumbs and a both legs below the knee amputated after he was put on artificial life support called ECMO - extracorporeal membrane oxygenation - where blood is pumped out of the body and through devices that add oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from it. <br/><br/>The machine saved his life, but also meant his extremities weren't getting enough circulation as his body began to shut down and attempted to preserve only his vital organs. <br/><br/>James is home after a year in hospital and is determined to walk again on his new prosthetic legs.<br/><br/>James, who was working for a children's charity prior to being hospitalised, from Cranfield, Milton Keynes said: “Being a dad you’re supposed to be invincible.<br/><br/>\

A bride whose late father was the Clemson Tiger mascot during his college days was surprised when the Tiger walked her down the aisle on her wedding day. Clemson holds a special place in the hearts of 29-year-old Brindley Faile Perrini's family, where her parents, Randy and Trellise, met during their studies. Between 1982 and 1984, Randy was also the university's famed Tiger mascot, which meant that Brindley, who graduated from Clemson, and her sister later became huge fans of the college, attending numerous mascot reunions with their dad as teenagers. Sadly for the family, though, Randy passed away from a heart attack in 2018 after 34 years of marriage, leaving Brindley with a hole to fill when walking down the aisle on her wedding day. Mom Trellise, 61, devised a plan to make things extra special. Having reached out to the Clemson, a committee discussed the idea Trellise had put forward: that the Clemson Tiger would walk Brindley down the aisle in her father's place. Brindley said that the Tiger had never fulfilled this duty, but after the committee approved the request, the wheels were set in motion. Ahead of her wedding at Alexander Homestead in Charlotte, North Carolina, Brindley felt bummed because a photo charm of her father had not arrived in time to add to her bouquet. This provided the perfect cover for the surprise, as while Brindley was having her bridal portraits taken on March 23, her mom said: 'I know you were upset that the photo charm didn’t come in, so I got you a little something to help you honor Dad.' A surprised Brindley did not know what to expect and started following her mother. Then, around the corner, came the Clemson Tiger, causing Brindley to go weak at the knees and scream in shock. With a smile beamed across her face, the 32-year-old, who lives in Mesa, Arizona, headed over to the mascot for a big hug.

Rahman, Irshad Kamil, Parineeti<br/>Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila attempts to bottle the essence of a legendary Punjabi singer who evades easy categorisation. Murdered in 1988 at the age of 27 when he was at the height of his powers, Chamkila is an exemplar of the supernova who lives and dies for art.<br/><br/>Biopics on Chamkila have been previously announced and abandoned; at least one of them, starring Diljit Dosanjh, was completed but stalled by a lawsuit. Chamkila’s unsolved assassination shaped key plot points in Rohit Jugraj’s web series Chamak (2023). The difficulty of drawing definitive conclusions about Chamkila’s multi-faceted legacy led to Kabir Singh Chowdhry’s fascinating experimental docu-fiction Mehsampur (2018).Ali’s version, which is out on Netflix and is also led by Dosanjh, reaches for low-hanging fruit: who – or what – killed Chamkila?<br/><br/>The screenplay, by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali, unfolds like a police procedural. Chamkila (Dosanjh) is gunned down along with his singer-wife Amarjot (Parineeti Chopra) soon after they arrive in Mehsampur for a concert. A police officer who dismisses the icon as a vulgarian learns about Chamkila’s hardscrabble background, overnight success, and the unwelcome attention he attracted for his bawdy, taboo-busting songs.I discovered the man who was born Dhani Ram, one man says. I gave him his stage name, another asserts. Inspired by the goings-on around him, Chamkila wields his tumbi like a magic wand, bewitching local listeners as well as the Punjabi diaspora. Yet, his fame cannot shield from him from the ire of militants, religious leaders and the police.<br/><br/>Dosanjh, Chopra, and a few other singers perform Chamkila’s original songs in Punjabi, with the Hindi translations appearing on the screen. AR Rahman’s Punjabi pop-inflected Hindi soundtrack is woven into the musical-like saga. (Punjab is called Panjab throughout the movie.)The hot-blooded account of a cold case includes animation, split screens and footage of the real Chamkila and Amarjot. There is enough archival material included in the film to make the heart yearn for a straight-up documentary.<br/><br/>The music video-level aesthetic creates enough momentum to distract from how mundane the movie turns out to be. Chowdhry’s Mehsampur suggested that the aura around Chamkila was too thick to penetrate, especially by filmmakers who had not breathed the same air as him. Ali is untrammelled by such concerns. Having bagged the rights to Chamkila’s music catalogue, and having recruited big-name talent, Ali sets out to Bollywoodise the folk performer.The biopic is fixated on the explicit lyrics that put Chamkila on the top of charts and hit lists. Ali’s recent projects similarly focus on sexual matters, including the shows She, about a repressed police constable, and Dr Arora, about a sexologist.
