OpenAI announced it is developing a Media Manager tool to allow content creators to identify their works and specify how they want them included or excluded from AI training and research. The goal is to have Media Manager available by 2025 as OpenAI works with creators, owners, and regulators toward standards. It will use machine learning to identify copyrighted text, images, audio, and video across sources and apply creator preferences for inclusion or exclusion. This responds to criticism of OpenAI's approach of scraping publicly available data without compensation or credit for training generative AI models.
