Part 3 of 4 of the period murder thriller. Now a widower, Dr Bickleigh's plans to marry Madeleine Cranmere are thwarted when he discovers she is now married to young Denny Bourne. And he has further problems with his former girlfriend Ivy Ridgeway's new husband William Chatford, who is not only suspicious of Edmund's previous relationship with Ivy, but also the cause of Edmund's wife's death. With this threat and the situation with Madeleine, Dr Bickleigh decides that if he can get away with murder once, he can do so a second time. The period settings are superb, as are the performances, and the wonderful theme tune is by Ron Grainer, who did both Doctor Who and Tales of the Unexpected.
