Description: The Taiwan Relations Act, passed by the U.S. Congress after Washington switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in 1979, has shaped unofficial U.S.-Taiwan ties in the more than four decades since then. The Act has endured due to the strong foundation it's provided the relationship, but owes much of its existence to the hard work of officials and supporters of Taiwan in both countries.
