शीतलाष्टमी के दिन घर में चूल्हा नहीं जलाया जाता है। एक दिन पहले ही सारा भोजन बनाकर रख लिया जाता है। फिर दूसरे दिन यानी पूजा वाले दिन सुबह उठकर माता की पूजा उसी भोजन से की जाती है। घर के सभी व्यक्ति भी शीतल भोजन ही खाते हैं। इस दिन घर में चूल्हा नहीं जलता, ताजा खाना अगली सुबह से ही किया जाता है। बिहार में तो शीतलाष्टमी के दिन एक दिन पहले बने कढ़ी और चावल खाने की परंपरा है। चावल को पर्व से एक दिन पहले पानी में रख देते हैं और अगले दिन छानकर प्रसाद के रूप में ग्रहण करते हैं। गर्म तेल और छोंकने वाली चीजें रोगों को बढ़ावा देने वाली मानी जाती हैं इस कारण एक दिन पहले बनी हुई चीजों का भोग लगाया जाता है। शीतला अष्टमी के दिन बासी खाना क्यों खाते है ? <br/> <br/>On the day of Shitalashtami, stale food is eaten.
