Factors contributing to this demand include an ageing population with more chronic ailments and patients from hospital waiting lists seeking relief from pain or mental health issues. With declining GP numbers and the looming threat of surgery closures, NHS and medical leaders foresee exacerbating issues. As of October, England's NHS boasted 27,368 full-time, fully qualified GPs—761 fewer than in December 2019, despite a Tory manifesto pledge to add 6,000 GPs by 2024. Moreover, an increasing number of GPs opt for part-time work, citing the unmanageable nature of the job full-time. According to a Nuffield Trust report, the NHS must train two GPs to replace one full-time family doctor. <br/><br/>A Royal College of GPs survey found that 37% of respondents were unlikely to remain in general practice within five years, while 5% anticipated their practice closing or relinquishing its contract within the next year.")

The site is situated beside Germiston and sandwiched between Blackhill and Garngad.<br/><br/>Plans for £400 million Glasgow prison replacement granted approval and work begins on the build.<br/><br/>PLANS for a £400 million prison to replace HMP Barlinnie have been approved.<br/><br/>Glasgow City Council was given the green light to build the new prison complex on the former Provan Gas Works site in the north of the city.<br/><br/>HMP Glasgow will have five four-storey residential housing blocks at its centre, which will be equipped with heat pumps and solar panels.<br/><br/>Initial estimates for the replacement for HMP Barlinnie had been around £170m. However, in November, Justice Secretary Angela Constance said replacing the “somewhat Victorian” prison would likely cost around £400m.<br/><br/>Michael Stoney, the governor of HMP Barlinnie who is leading on HMP Glasgow, told the BBC in August that the old site was overcrowded, outdated, and at risk of “catastrophic failure”.<br/><br/>Speaking after plans for the replacement prison were approved, Stoney said: \")
