It was a rematch of the 2023 XFL championship game, however there was a different result Saturday afternoon as the DC Defenders took down the Arlington Renegades 29-28 in a wild finish.<br/><br/>The Renegades had a 28-18 lead with under two minutes left when Defenders returner Chris Rowland took the kickoff all the way to the Renegades 35-yard line, putting the offense in prime position to score quickly. They did so to cut the lead to two before converting the 4th and 12 alternate kickoff conversion. The very next play, Renegades CB Duron Lowe had a prime opportunity to seal the deal with an interception but it slipped right thru his hands. Instead, it landed in the hands of Defenders receiver, Kelvin Harmon as he took it to the 26-yard line. From there it was enough for Matt McCrane to hit a 49-yard FG as time expired.<br/><br/>After the game Renegades Coach Bob Stoops pointed out a couple plays that didn’t go their way stating “our execution wasn’t good enough.”<br/><br/>Despite the loss, Renegades QB Luis Perez had a productive day, throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Tyler Vaughns 9 times for 109 yards and 1 TD. In addition to that, backup QB Lindsey Scott Jr. energized the offense, converting a 3rd down on three different occasions, one including a 13-yard rushing TD. He spoke on the spark plug that he is for the offense stating he, “being that…6th man that comes off the bench and hits the dagger that hurts.”<br/><br/>Penalties were a big factor to the Renegades downfall, as the Renegades committed nine of them for 75 yards.<br/>The Renegades now sit at 0-3 as they head back to the drawing board. After that, they will head to Houston to take on the Roughnecks next Sunday, a rematch of last year’s playoff game.

_worlds-first-jet-powered-amish-buggy.webp "AN AMISH BUGGY that would normally be drawn by horses has been fitted with a turbo jet engine. “It’s like oil and water, they should not go together,” jokes its creator Chad Clark. The outrageous project, built by Chad Clark and Mike Monter of Millersburg, Ohio was originally meant to be something very different. “Mike and I were at our local county fair, I mentioned it would be really cool to build a turbine-powered four-wheel drive pulling truck,” Chad explained. But the auction description had misrepresented the engine as a turbo shaft engine. “I went home that night, found an engine online and bought it but didn’t realise it was not turboshaft, it was turbojet only,” Chad remembers. They ended up having to use a much lighter vehicle instead of the original truck. “We live in the Amish capital of the world so we figured an Amish buggy would be perfect,” Chad said. Co-creator Mike Monter told Future Studios Cars: “He called me up, said we’re not doing a pulling truck anymore, we’re doing an Amish buggy – seemed natural.” The build and modifications cost around $30,000 and took roughly 700 hours of labour to complete: “Many all-nighters,” Chad said. When out in public, people struggle to believe the bizarre creation actually works. “When people see the Thunder Buggy they can’t believe their eyes and the first question is, does it really move? Yes it does,” explained Chad. Traditionally, these buggies would have been moved by horses so this particular one is far from conventional. “The buggy is not designed to take 100 feet of electrical wiring, fuel tanks and a jet engine,” Chad admitted. With a top speed of 65 miles per hour before the wheels start shaking, this exhibition-only vehicle was not built for speed: “It’s a really simple engine design, it’s some pretty awesome engineering from back in the 40s,” explained Chad.")

Davey Hamilton, from Indianapolis, was struggling to find the truck of his dreams. But having been inspired by his friend in Maine, another former driver who owned a truck, Davey decided to take things one step further. But to build his backwards truck, Davey had to first find a truck with a big back window that could act as a windscreen. Davey told R.Rides: “A lot of the older trucks have really small back windows; they don’t have the wide ones. I couldn’t find a truck with a big back window. I happened to find this truck three miles from my father’s house and knew I had to get it.” The truck had its original body, frames and pedals. “We had put the lights on obviously, going the wrong direction. I didn't know what to do for bed cover. So, we figured to keep the rustic look.” Davey had to do a lot of work for the truck to work just right. “We had to cut a hole between the bed of the truck and the cab of the truck for your feet to go in. And so that had to be sealed up so there's no water getting inside the truck.” With the seats in and doors on, the truck still had a little to go before making its road debut. The windshield wipers got installed to make it safe, so the truck had everything that’s required to get going. “It looks like it's supposed to go forward. And so, it took some time and to get everything levelled out and make sure that was mounted properly.” And Davey loves his creation for lots of reasons. “Number one, it’s an attention getter. Number two, it's definitely a fan favourite, number three, it was a lot of work. There's new people that see it every time we take it out and it's definitely a crowd getter.”")
