After years of opposition, they did not convert to Islam, except to save their lives when the Muslims had conquered their home city of Mecca. They never had sincere belief in the teachings of the Prophet. Surprisingly, these opponents of the Prophet acquired the government over the Prophet’s followers, and established the first monarchy after him.
