Gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation and have the highest energy of any kind of wave in the electromagnetic spectrum. These waves come from things like supernova explosions, supermassive black holes, and even solar flares. Before Explorer 11 launched to look for gamma rays in space, scientists were pretty sure that gamma rays were out there. However, they had to way of detecting these gamma rays, because they get absorbed in Earth's atmosphere. Explorer 11 detected 22 cosmic gamma rays during its seven-month mission. These rays were coming from all over the place and didn't seem to point to any particular sources out in space. This observation became the first evidence of a uniform gamma-ray background in the universe.

He's honestly the coolest dog ever. <br/><br/>“Most dogs would run away when you start a Harley because they’re so loud. <br/><br/>“Oreo would start following me around and I thought he wanted a ride. <br/><br/>“I fabricated an aluminium box which I mounted on the rack on the back of bike – and the rest was history. <br/><br/>“He loves it. He’s never tried to jump out - he's gotten so used to riding now he rides partially with his front paws on my back rest to see over my shoulder. <br/><br/>“He’s a good rider, he knows how to shift his weight and he’s pretty amazing.” <br/><br/>Joe, wife Penny, 60, and their two daughters adopted Oreo from the local humane society after Joe provided volunteer welding services.<br/><br/>Abbey, 18 and sister Erin, 21, chose the pup – who they believe is a black Lab and weiner dog mix – and Joe says he had his doubts initially. <br/><br/>But Oreo quickly won him round and now the pair are inseparable.<br/><br/>Battery technician Joe bought his Harley Road King brand new in 2003 for £20k and says he’s owned bikes since he was 12. <br/><br/>Joe and Oreo ride from spring to autumn – with Joe saying they’re on the bike “full time”. <br/><br/>“Every time I take him out, I’m surprised it hasn’t caused a car crash, people are so distracted,” said Joe. <br/><br/>“He just wants to do anything I'm doing. If I climb into a go-kart or anything the dog wants some of that. <br/><br/>“Most girls will say 'that's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life' - my standard answer is 'why thank you, but what do you think of the dog'. <br/><br/>“I can walk out into the garage and bump the starter on the Harley and that dog will come running down the hallway every time - it's the funniest thing to see.”")

The coastal sand dunes that reside next to the small seaport village of Winchester Bay, Oregon, was our playground. Off-road video guru Ray Gauger shot this amazing footage of the event, and our own digital wizard, Mark Williams, assembled it into this short clip.<br/><br/>If you’ve never been to Winchester Bay, you’re going to want to add it to your bucket list after watching this. Unlike most sand dune OHV locations in other states, Winchester Bay has actual trails that wind through the lower-elevation seagrass and the pine tree-covered peaks of the dunes. The trails venture into the trees with high sandy banks, hairpin twists, and some narrow sections that just cannot be navigated in a side-by-side.<br/><br/>Many will tell you that the best way to experience Winchester Bay is by attending DuneFest, a massive annual gathering of off-roaders that happens every August. And we agree.
