The system of city walls in Poreč dates back to antiquity, and reconstructions and adaptations took place periodically from the 12th to the 16th century, always on the foundations of the old ones—the most comprehensive reconstruction dates from the 13th century, when podesta Warnerio de Gillago governed the town.
