Consider a car or a person driving down a straight road or jogging on a straight track. Think of an object being tossed vertically into the air and then watching it fall. These are examples of one-dimensional motion.<br/>Motion in a Straight Line is a one-dimensional motion along a straight line. It is the most simple kind of one-dimensional motion.<br/>Distance is a numerical or occasionally qualitative measurement of how far apart objects or points are. In physics or everyday usage, distance may refer to a physical length or an estimation based on other criteria.<br/>The word displacement implies that an object has moved, or has been displaced. Displacement is defined to be the change in position of an object.<br/>In geometry and mechanics, a displacement is a vector whose length is the shortest distance from the initial to the final position of a point P undergoing motion.<br/>Velocity is the prime indicator of the position as well as the rapidity of the object. It can be defined as the distance covered by an object in unit time. Velocity can be defined as the displacement of the object in unit time.<br/>Speed: the rate of change of displacement with respect to time is called speed.<br/>Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Usually, acceleration means the speed is changing, but not always. When an object moves in a circular path at a constant speed, it is still accelerating, because the direction of its velocity is changing.<br/>Instantaneous velocity is defined as the rate of change of position for a time interval which is very small (almost zero). Measured using SI unit m/s. Instantaneous speed is the magnitude of the instantaneous velocity.<br/>Average velocity is defined as the change in position or displacement (∆x) divided by the time intervals (∆t) in which the displacement occurs. The average velocity can be positive or negative depending upon the sign of the displacement. The SI unit of average velocity is meters per second (m/s or ms-1).<br/>The instantaneous speed is the speed of an object at a particular moment in time. And if you include the direction with that speed, you get the instantaneous velocity. In other words, eight meters per second to the right was the instantaneously velocity of this person at that particular moment in time.<br/>The average speed is the total distance traveled by the object in a particular time interval. The average speed is a scalar quantity. It is represented by the magnitude and does not have direction.<br/>Instantaneous acceleration is the acceleration of the object at some discrete instant in time and can be found by taking the derivate of the velocity function. In other words, instantaneous acceleration, or simply acceleration, is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time.
