The Elf was the last design by Harold Bolas for George Parnall And Co, a carpentry firm that had entered aircraft manufacture during WW1. The type was first displayed at Olympia in July 1929, a low maintenance two-seater with folding wings designed as a rival to the DH Moths, for the private and club markets. An innovative feature was the Warren girder wing bracing which allowed the customary complex of flying and landing wires to be largely dispensed with. A commercial failure, only three Elfs
