Description: Born to a Japanese mother and an African American father, Peter Westbrook grew up in poverty and faced taunts for being mixed-race -- but harnessed his own childhood experiences to fuel his drive for fencing. He became a 6-time Olympian and 13-time U.S. National champion fencer, the flag bearer for the 1992 Olympics, and the first African American to hold a national gold title in saber fencing. Westbrook went on to found the Peter Westbrook Foundation, leveraging fencing to enrich kids’ lives.
