Description:
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is primarily caused by sun exposure, so everyone is at risk. It's so common, that nearly 5 million Americans are treated every year. In fact, more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. The good news is it's preventable, that's why Dr. Nkem Ugonabo partnered with Neutrogena to spread the word. For years, Neutrogena has been committed to supporting sun safety and providing sunscreen solutions for all as a preventative measure for skin cancer. In honor of Melanoma Awareness Month this May and Melanoma Awareness Day on May 6, Neutrogena is proud to share it has donated over 1 million dollars to the Melanoma Research Foundation over their 7-year relationship. And what we love about the brand, is that they make it super easy to choose the sunscreen that works best for specific needs, so you actually use it every day. What are some common myths and misconceptions around sunscreen? The first, is thinking that because there is SPF in your makeup, you don't need to wear sunscreen. Unfortunately, the SPF in makeup isn't enough to limit the harmful effects of UV-Rays. If you're looking for an SPF that works well under makeup, try the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Serum SPF 60+ , a weightless serum that protects, hydrates and primes skin for makeup in one step. The second myth is thinking that if you have dark skin, you don't need to wear sunscreen. Everyone is at risk for melanoma, so regardless of your skin color, you need to wear sunscreen. A great option is Neutrogena's Invisible Daily Defense Face Serum SPF 60+ . This sunscreen helps fight against environmental aggressors like ozone and pollution while hydrating skin. The last myth is thinking that you don't need sunscreen if it's cloudy or cold. Every day is 'sun' day. Wearing sunscreen every day is the best way to prevent skin cancer. It's best to look for sunscreen labels that say, 'broad spectrum' and always wear an SPF 30 or higher. A great option is Neutrogena's new Invisible Daily Defense Mineral Face Liquid SPF 30 which provides 100% mineral active protection with a smooth and lightweight finish. What are some other healthy habits that you can incorporate into your lifestyle to reduce the risk of skin cancer? In addition to wearing sunscreen, avoid being out in the sun during peak hours. The sun's rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you're spending extended periods of time outside, it's best to seek shade (for example, under an umbrella). It's also important to cover up with protective clothing, such as a hat and sunglasses when you can. Lastly, make sure to see your friendly dermatologist for an annual skin cancer screening and mole check. Sinclair wants to sell more than 30% of its 185 owned or operated broadcast stations across the US through investment bank Moe-liss & Co. The stations considered for sale generate an estimated $1.5 billion in combined revenue for 2023-2024 and are located in major markets like Minneapolis, Portland, Pittsburgh, Austin, and Fresno. Sinclair is open to selling all or some of the 60+ stations that have been identified as potential sales. The potential sales come amid tensions within Sinclair's owning Smith family and losses of over 70% in market value over 5 years.

One in three Brits 'hate' unexpected phone calls and a quarter rarely or never answer them.

A poll of 2,000 adults found 31 per cent ‘panic’ when the phone rings - especially if it’s from an unknown number or someone they haven’t heard from in a while.

As many as 40 per cent prefer to know when someone is going to ring them, and half simply won’t pick up a call that they’re not expecting.

But for anyone planning to ring someone without pre-warning, try doing it in the afternoon – as it’s the time people are most likely to actually pick up.

The study was commissioned by Buffalo Trace Distillery [www.BuffaloTraceDistillery.co.uk] ahead of the opening its first store outside of the USA, on 6th May.

The whiskey brand also turned an iconic British phone box green in Covent Garden and challenged passers-by to answer a call from inside, with those who dared to pick up the phone getting an exclusive tasting experience.

Andrew Duncan, global brand director for the brand, said: “It’s clear spontaneity is becoming a lost art form.

“And we think that’s a shame because many of life’s greatest experiences happen when one commits to living what we like to call perfectly untamed – bolder, more daring, and less afraid of the unknown.

“We believe fortune favours the bold, and picking up the phone has the potential to result in some amazing adventures.”

The study also found nearly 37 per cent are less likely to pick up an unexpected call now than they were five years ago.

Although while 30 per cent of men prefer to plan everything in their lives and could never do something spontaneously, only 23 per cent of women felt the same.

Similarly, 72 per cent of women are more likely to answer the phone from an unknown number, compared to 57 per cent of men.

And 12 per cent said it’s been a week or longer since they spoke to someone on the phone – with some not even remembering the last time.

Instead, 26 per cent prefer to communicate via social media rather than using their voice on a phone line.

But the research, carried out via OnePoll, found 23 per cent of those who have answered a call they weren’t expecting revealed it led to something surprisingly good.

Andrew Duncan added: “As communication moves more online, it’s natural to feel less comfortable with picking up the phone when it rings, but there really is no substitute for tangible moments of connection with others.

“We wanted to remind people that sometimes, the unexpected call can lead to simple but important delights, like spending quality time with friends and family.

“Unexpected moments shared over a glass of whiskey are, unsurprisingly, some of our favourites.”
